Back in Germany: Dr. Raudive's last two books.

After his return from London Raudive finished further two books:
1973 appeared "Uberleben wir den Tod?" (Do we Survive Death?)
1975 posthumous "Der Fall Wellensittich" (The Case Budgerigar).

1."Uberleben wir den Tod?"

Whereas Raudive's first book "Breaktrough" from 1971 (German edition published already five years earlier) had been a serious work, his second has several passages characterized by an unpleasant and arrogant know-all ("The great Expert") attitude altogether mixed up with some utmost strange postulates.
So we are warned from the very beginning: "Only some tenthousandths of a millimeter in wavelength difference means the threshold between the audible and the inaudible. The voices are seemingly oriented against quicker frequencies. Therefore one needs at least three months of time before the ear has tuned in to these frequencies...."
(By the way: The wavelength of sound (speech 330 - 3300Hz) is somewhere between 1 and 0.1 meter
)
One may find a lot of similar pseudo-scientifically nonsense, including strange discussions of Raudive's favorite theory about an "anti-world" as the origin of the voices. There also are some discussions with different scientists and technicians - interesting, but containing nothing new. Experiments under the attendance of David Ellis are also described and they only certify the lack of technical knowledge already mentioned earlier. A great part of the book consist of the usual seemingly endless numbers of voice examples - one only can ask why?

Considerable more interesting is the investigation of some of Raudive's voices by a voiceprinter or "Visible Speech" recorder. Such an apparatus, when supplied with speech frequencies from a microphone, tape recorder or the like, prints out a graphic reproduction of speech on a tape. (The horisontal direction represents time, the vertikal the frequency and the intesity of blacking the intensity - today the blacking is replaced by different colors. These prints are absolute unique for each individual person.)
Raudive describes the investigation of two sets of voices, claimed to originate from two different (deceased) persons: Margarete Petrautzki, the former secretary of Zenta Maurina-Raudive and the parapsychologist Dr.Gebhard Frei. The results were convincing: The Petrautzki voices, recorded through seven years originated from one and the same person. The same was the case with the Dr.Frei voices. But both voices consist of only three sentences, each with a length from maximum seven down to two syllables. In spite of their shortnes Petrautzki managed to speak both French, Swedish, English and German. Dr.Frei was satisfied with German, Italian and Latvian.
The results may indicate the common origin of the voices. As a support of an eventual spiritualistic hypothesis they are of no value.
Today Dr.Raudive's book perhaps may have a historical interest. If you already possess his "Breakthrough" just keep it. The only realy new you may find are twelve sides with a multinational bibliography up to 1972 - the best part of the book.

2."Der Fall Wellensittich"

27. June 1971 died Mrs.Damaros (Germany) 14 years old daughter Barbara. The year before Barbara was given a budgerigar as a Christmas present. At the time before her death the Putzi (the name of the bird) twittered only a little but gradually it became more lively and some months later Mrs.Damaros recorded the twitter on her tape-recorder.
When afterwards listening to the recorded, Mrs.Damaros thought to recognizes some human voices and later she was able to hear whole sentences, very often also the names Putzi and Mami (Germ."Mother").
The phenomenon continued and 27. March Mrs.Damaros wrote a letter (enclosed a tape cassette with "hundreds of impressing examples") to Raudive who, after long hesitation, decided to see her at his home. Mrs.Damaros arrived 27. October, bringing with her four tape-cassettes with Putzi-voices. A closer control by Raudive and four of his collaborators revealed several voices. Some weeks later during a two day stay with Mr. and Mrs.Damoros and of course also Putzi, several experiments were carried out witch resulted in a lot of voices. It is not possible for me neither to bring a more detailed review of this strange book nor comment what happened. First time I heard of it I thought it was a joke... It was not.

But nevertheless there are some unanswered questions: Did Mrs. Damaros had any knowledge of the Voice Phenomenon? Why did she make the recordings of Putzi's twitter? Was the recording in reality an attempt to make a normal microphon voice-recording with some background noise - the Putzi? (Pehaps you remeber that Jurgenson got his first voice manifestation when recording the voice of a chaffinch.) And there was also an another interesting detail:
